Tennis Elbow or lateral epicondylitis is a painful condition that effects the tendons in your elbow. It occurs when your elbow is overloaded with repetitive stress/motions on your wrist and arm. The swelling typically occurs when you bend your wrist backward away from your palm.

How can we help as Chiropractors?
The initial treatment process for a mild chest muscle strain includes RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation). The patient would be recommended to stop any major activity as soon as they feel the pain, apply ice to the affected area for 20 minutes 2-3 times a day, wrap the area to the point of comfort and elevate the chest especially at night.
Once the patient’s pectoralis inflammation has subsided the chiropractor will provide some trigger point and soft tissue therapy to the area, and the surrounding structures. The chiropractor will stretch and then eventually strengthen/re-condition the muscle.

The initial treatment process for the Iliotibial band syndrome is resting and staying off your legs until it starts healing. Once the initial swelling subsides, as chiropractors we can provide manual therapy which includes trigger point therapy and soft tissue techniques to the affected area and surrounding structures. The chiropractor will stretch and then eventually strengthen/re-condition the muscle. Once the pain has subsided and the patient is able to manage their symptoms, chiropractors can also teach proper ergonomics and postural training to help prevent future injuries with activities. In severe cases if chiropractic care is not the appropriate care and is not effective, your chiropractor will refer you for proper imaging and will refer you to an orthopedist for further evaluation.

If the patient seeks help early on there are a lot more options for treatments. The patient will usually be advised to avoid certain repetitive activities that aggravate their symptoms. A splint may be given for them to use while they sleep. As chiropractors we can provide exercises and nerve flossing techniques to help keep the median nerve mobile. If the condition is not addressed right away, permanent damage
may occur. The patient may be referred to the orthopedic surgeon for steroid injections, or in some cases surgery to take the pressure off the median nerve.

Initially your chiropractor may advise you to reduce or completely stop riding your bike or horse to allow the inflammation in the joints, surrounding soft tissue/muscle or the nerves in the region to subside. As chiropractors, we can treat the soft tissue structures and muscles with myofascial release technique and trigger point therapy in the hips, buttocks, low back, and pelvic region. Appropriately palpated joint mobilization and adjustments in the region will also help alleviate joint pain and pressure. Depending on the patient’s symptoms if the pudendal nerve is impinged, then nerve flossing/stretching will also be part of the treatment plan.

As Chiropractors we treat Piriformis syndrome. We treat the hip, buttock and lower extremity muscles and provide therapeutic modalities to the hip, buttock and lower extremity. Stretches would be provided to the hip, buttock and lower extremity muscles to help strengthen, and reduce tension/inflammation in the piriformis region to prevent sciatic nerve symptoms. Adjustments to the appropriate regions of the spine will help create better movement patterns.

As Chiropractors, we can treat TMJ disorders by examining the joint itself and finding ways to improve mobility and create symmetry of the jaw. We stretch and strengthen the muscles around the jaw and skull to help improve function. Depending on the patient’s condition we can also adjust the TMJ. Don’t ever neglect to mention your TMJ pain or the above symptoms to your Chiropractor. It may be impacting other areas of your body that need attention as well.

‘After a long struggle, legislation was signed in 1983 to mark the birthday of Dr. King as a federal holiday. Americans first observed the holiday in 1986. In 1994, Congress designated the holiday as a national day of service and charged AmeriCorps with leading this effort. Since then, the third Monday each January has been named the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, and is the ONLY federal holiday observed as a national day of service — a "day on, not a day off." This day of service helps to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, address social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."’
We are proud to continue to honor the ongoing vision of equity, humility and kindness as the cornerstones of a just and decent society.
